Fleetwood by Fuller: A Custom Hot Wheels Car Brought to Life
The World’s First Custom-Designed Hot Wheels Car
The Cadillac Fleetwood was brought to life by Bryan Fuller, who envisioned a new collaboration between Hot Wheels and the world of real custom cars. Inspired by Jay Leno’s work with GM’s design studio, Fuller approached Hot Wheels, and they embraced the challenge. Together, they set out to create a stunning, full-scale model known as the "Fleetwood."
At the time, Fuller was deep into building the Thundertaker, a unique custom car, when a client approached him with an idea: to create a “Dick Tracy”-inspired sled with serious character. The rare 1938 Cadillac Fleetwood roadster, celebrated for its V16 engine, became the inspiration, sparking the idea to combine two Cadillac V8 engines in a back-to-back setup.
Talented Mattel designer Fraser Campbell joined the project, bringing his artistic vision to the table. The Fleetwood began to take shape, and the Fuller Moto team moved forward with detailed 3D CAD modeling.
This collaboration between Hot Wheels and Fuller Moto marks a historic moment—the first-ever purpose-built Hot Wheels car designed to bring a big kid’s dream into reality.
Pushing the Boundaries in Car Building with New Technology
In a thrilling new project, master car builders are coming together to combine old-school craftsmanship with cutting-edge technology. The goal? To build a custom car body from scratch in just one week. Traditionally, handcrafting a car body from aluminum could take thousands of hours, but advancements in 3D scanning and computer-aided shaping allow for a quicker, more precise process. This project will leverage these new tools to create a stunning vehicle, incorporating old-world techniques with modern-day tech.
This project has been a long-time dream, involving a V16, two-V8 engine concept inspired by classic models. This team of expert welders, fabricators, and craftsmen will collaborate to bring the vision to life, exchanging techniques and discovering ways to streamline the building process. The experience will be thoroughly documented, with daily updates and high-quality media for fans and sponsors to follow the journey.
It’s not just a car; it’s a learning experience and a celebration of innovation in the automotive world. This project offers a rare look at what’s possible when passion meets technology.
